Seller Beware

by Joe Doxey on June 2, 2011

Warnings for a Seller in Despair

Unfortunately, there are many businesses who are taking advantage of people who are already in a tough spot and who are not familiar with all of the options that are available. Here are some things to look out for.

Beware of any company or individual who…

  • Claims they can stop a foreclosure, no matter what the circumstances may be. This is false from the get-go and should a huge red flag.
  • Only accepts a wire transfer or cashier’s check.
  • Doesn’t want you to contact your own lawyer, lender or any other real estate counselor.
  • Tries to get you sign papers that you are unclear about.
  • Encourages you to lease your home so you can buy it back over time.
  • Tells you to make your mortgage payments directly to them; rather than your lender.
  • Attempts to sway you into transferring your property deed or title to them.
  • Offers to buy your house for cash at a fixed price that is not set by the housing market at the time of sale.
  • Pressures you to sign paperwork you haven’t had a chance to read thoroughly or that you don’t understand.

There are some things you need to be aware of when shopping for a company that can help you save your home from foreclosure. Avoid being a victim of fraud.  On top of nearly losing your home, that’s the LAST thing you need.
